It is no secret that climate change has affected so many lives throughout the world.  Many areas of the Netherlands are below sea level and due to increased rain and higher river water levels flooding is becoming more and more common.  One of the solutions that is being implemented are water basins to act as a holding tank for water that would otherwise flood developed areas.  Since these water basins are also creating lovely opportunities to live near the water, urban development is on the rise around them, or rather IN them.  The stipulation for building in these areas is that the structures need to float.  This article has an example of one of the structures and it sure is a beaut!  There are two types of structures: a pontoon structure which sits on top of the water or a concrete box structure which sits in the water.  The more I learned the more I wanted to pack my bags off to a new floating home in Amsterdam!
